NYSCWA President's Column - Spring 2010

As the seasons change our challenges change. From heat to salt to sand to ice, and snow and bugs and pollen we face new challenges as carwash operators. We have to be prepared for these challenges with bug cleaner, sap remover and different solution ratios to best clean the vehicles that come to our washes. We always have to be ready for change.

As you read from our Lobbyist Bill Crowell, driveway and charity washes are on the forefront. It’s going to be up to every one of us to educate our customers about the environmental benefits of professional carwashes. We have to get people to change their habits and the only way to do that is through education. In addition to that, we also have to educate our local leaders, Legislators and Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) leaders about our industry and its benefits. It’s no small feat, but it’s one we can do collectively. It will take the effort of many, not a few.

Social Media Seminar

Please make every effort to attend our Spring General Membership Meeting, April 14 in Latham at the Century House on Rt. 9 (outside of Albany). Sought after industry expert Ryan Carlson of Washideas.com will share his expertise on just how easy it is to market your carwash by using today’s social media technology — Facebook and Twitter, etc. He will also educate us on the importance of marketing in today’s economy and explain how to do it in a cost-effective way. You cannot afford to miss this presentation! The rewards you will gain will be 10-fold.

I’d also ask you to check out our website, nyscwa.com. We have some great information on it about energy savings and membership benefits. If you have something to share, please email the site or our Executive Director via email.

I also encourage you to drop us an email if you have interest in serving on our board. Whether you are a seasoned operator or new to the industry, we’d love to have you serve. It doesn’t take a lot of time, but the benefits are tremendous and the networking is priceless.

See you April 14 for a great program!
