Monthly Reminders
July 2010
- To add a fresh look to your flower beds turn over the mulch. Keep up with the weeds.
- Check and clean the gutters, drains & catch basins.
- Are your trash barrels looking old or is your dumpster too small for the job? Replace them with new or bigger ones.
- Check your doors, doorknobs, locks and hinges, are they in good working order?
- Grease the springs of your overhead doors. Check their cables, wheels and hinges too!

NYSCWA President's Letter - Summer 2009
I hope you all had a great winter washing season. Volumes were the best we have seen in central New York in five years. Let’s hope things continue in that direction.
We just had to cancel our spring membership meeting in Albany. I think at one time someone said, “united we stand, divided we fall.” We need to show that there is strength in numbers. I know business has changed and a lot of people need to step back and take a breath. After you have had your breath, let’s get back to work. Let’s continue the do the great work this association has done over the last two decades and more. We need all of our membership to get involved and to care. We have two membership meetings a year and a baseball event. Please make every effort to attend at least one of them!
We also need a mission or purpose for the association to tackle right now. With that said, at our next board meeting I will task the board and our lobbyist to get the state to regulate “none-green” washing. Any vehicle washing that does not include contained run off, to be treated and returned to the watershed, should be outlawed in New York state. What that means is any wash that is not attached to a treatment facility of some type should be illegal — i.e. driveway or parking lot washing.
We have been a “green” industry for a long time. We use less power, water than the public perceives and we treat our outflow, etc. Let’s educate the people of New York state on those facts. If you have any ideas or examples where your wash has received positive press please share it with us at 800/287-6604 or email our Executive Director via email.
This is a monumental task and we are going to need everyone’s help to accomplish it but we can do it if we work together!
Our Fall Membership Meeting is a Winery & Wash Tour, September 30, starting from The Lodge at Bristol Harbor in Canandaigua (the Finger Lakes Region) and heading out to tour some washes and wineries before getting back to the lodge that evening. It should be an exceptional event and a great networking opportunity. Make sure you participate. You can register and pay right on line at www.nyscwa.com.
20th NRCC!!!
The NYSCWA is also this year’s Northeast Regional Carwash Convention (NRCC) host at the Borgata in Atlantic City. It is the NRCC’s 20th year running this show and it should be a great one! If you didn’t attend the ICA show this year, or in several years, you should make the trip to Atlantic City. The show is enormous and has a lot of really high-quality educational programming. Don’t miss out!
And, as always, if anyone has an interest to serve on the NYSCWA board of directors, please give us a call. We are always looking for new ideas and issues to tackle for our membership, and new faces as well!
