Monthly Reminders

July 2010

- To add a fresh look to your flower beds turn over the mulch. Keep up with the weeds.

- Check and clean the gutters, drains & catch basins.

- Are your trash barrels looking old or is your dumpster too small for the job?  Replace them with new or bigger ones.

- Check your doors, doorknobs, locks and hinges, are they in good working order?

- Grease the springs of your overhead doors.  Check their cables, wheels and hinges too!

NYSCWA President's Column - Fall 2009

As summer comes to a close (not that we really had a summer) it’s time to prepare for our busy season. At our operation we are working diligently to complete our list. We are checking things like boilers, coin box heaters, bearing, hoses chains, rollers, etc. We should all try to make sure that our costumers’ experience is the best it can be. We are also putting together our holiday book sale ads. A great promotion can create great cash flow and customer loyalty.

Legislatively, there is not much to report since Albany has been at a stand still. We are pursuing a ban on driveway washing in New York state. We are trying to protect one of the most valuable assets in the state — fresh water. Our education campaign revolves around the fact that our discharge is treated and we use 75 percent less water than the driveway washer. So, we are saying to the state — protect our watersheds.

I usually don’t like to include political rants in my address, but the political climate in this country is affecting all business. This “red” and “blue” scenario is going to kill this country. If this climate existed in 1776 we would still be debating the Declaration of Independence. The media is just killing the attitude in this country. Remember what you hear is only half the truth; you have to intelligently figure out what half. Remember, the loudest person in the room is the weakest person in the room. So the hell with “red” and “blue,” let’s get back to red white and blue. We are all AMERICANS so let’s work together.

One event that I think is very important for all of us to participate in is Grace For Vets. So if you have not done so, visit their web site and sign up today at graceforvets.org. You can also read more about the event on page xx. Let’s give our vets a big thank you for their service and sacrifice to our country. It’s the least we can do.

Our fall membership meeting was held in Canandaigua in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. We had a bus take us on a wine and wash tour. I hope you attended and got a lot out of the day. Let me know what you thought of it and what other programs you would like to see us plan in the future.

The 20th anniversary of the Northeast Regional Carwash Convention (NRCC) is October 19-21 in Atlantic City at the Borgata. We are hosting this year’s show so please make every effort to attend. It’s been 20 years of great programming and an impressive show floor. You really walk away from this show with more knowledge, ideas and a renewed commitment to this industry. You can register on line at nrccshow.com. Don’t delay!
Have a safe and happy holiday season
